What a Week!

So many memories….children out and about cleaning up our community, the two Goks – ‘Gok The Other Wan’ and ‘Gok Wan Two’, our own TV crew filming our Eco documentary, journalists hard at work on our ‘Eco Echo’, P2s wonderful ‘Litter Muncher’ play and so much creativity that went into our ‘designers outfits’!

The children have gained so much from the week!  Many thanks to all our visitors and parents who supported us so well.  Another Riverside Extravaganza bites the dust!

Thanks to all staff and visitors who helped make the week such a success and to our parents who, as usual, gave so much commitment.  We do appreciate you!  A special mention to Miss Ferguson and Mrs Wiik for their organisation and, of course, to the children, who never let us down with their enthusiasm and interest in learning.

It was a special week with so many memories.  Many thanks to a great Riverside team.

Thursday and Friday – P4/5M

Thursday was such a busy day!  We started with Recyc-a-bike where we learned all about fixing up bikes which we may have put in the bin! We played brilliant games on bikes, like follow the leader and a slow race.

We loved the carbon footprint workshop.  We learned that our carbon footprint is the amount of energy we use.  We should be trying to reduce our carbon footprint and we learned ways to do this.  We could walk or cycle to school, not leave electrical items on standby and use low energy bulbs.

We did more planting and got to plant seeds and take them home.  We planted sunflowers, carrots, nasturtiums, chives and rosemary.

Friday was an amazing day! We stuck lots of used train and bus tickets on to our huge van and created a piece of modern art!  These tickets would only be put in the bin but we managed to find a use for them.

The fashion show was fab.  We must have some future fashion designers at Riverside!  A super end to a fabulous week – a huge thank you to all our visitors!

4P’s Fabulous Friday

Well…what a week it’s been!

Today has again been very busy.  This morning, it was a rush to get the photos, captions and illustrations for our class frame and prepare our stall.  It was a good rush though, with everyone busy doing a job and working towards a deadline, which is a useful skill to develop!

Neve had to be sent home because she was feeling sick and had a very sore tummy, this was a huge pity as she was one of our models!  We chose Sophie to model Neve’s outfit and Sophie did Neve proud on the catwalk.  Hope you feel better soon Neve!  Jennifer  also did a fabulous job of modelling ‘The Curress’, the dress that used to be a curtain!!

The Fashion Show was really wonderful, with Conor in P6 and Neil from P7 being our resident Gok Wans!  It was brilliant to see how the rest of the school had been so creative in adapting/revamping old clothes into new!  We also enjoyed visiting the jumble sale and the stalls.  What a brilliant experience!

I’m looking forward to hearing more about what the children in 4P thought about the Eco Extravaganza Week and the Comic Relief activities on Monday when we come back to school.

Manic But Magnificent Friday; The Finale

A fantastic start to the day, first of all we  had a big fright from Mr Lawson as he was dressed  like a native American.   Some people went to the ICT  room to do photo stories that will display our class’s learning.  Others typed up the blog, completed a photo frame and  a leaflet about fair trade.  Since it is red nose day everyone has been bringing in donations and coming dressed in red with silly red noses and wigs.

This afternoon we are all excited because there is going to be a fashion show with all of the winners marvelous creations. There is also going to be a jumble sale and lots of other really fun things.

P6′s Preparing Jumble Sale 18th March

On 18th March the school will have a jumble sale to raise money.  The p6′s have been getting all the things prepared e.g. books, DVDs, CDs, games, and more.  After the Jumble Sale there will be an auction for all the present type things, eg, items that are not unwrapped: nice jewellery (rings, boxes, bracelets, necklaces and much more).  We will be trying our best to raise as much money as we can.

P2H Thursday and Friday

On Thursday morning P2H and 2W walked to the Smith Art Gallery.  We were learning about water in Stirling.  Outside in the Eco garden we were learning about flowers and fruit that grows in the garden.  We really enjoyed playing in the garden.  It was really fun and there was lots to do.  There was big logs we could hit with a small stick  and we could play a tune.  There was also a maze, a bridge and musical boards to stand on.  In the afternoon we picked our winners for the fashion show.  Abby and Cora won, we are looking forward to seeing them modelling their outfits.

This morning we have been learning about saving water and we made some posters.  We have been very busy preparing for the open afternoon today.  We are really looking forward to the fashion show this afternoon and sharing what we have been learning about.

We have had lots of fun this week during Eco week.  We enjoyed all of our activities and had lots of interesting visitors.

Thursday 5Q

Today was an extremely  interesting and fun day. We went through to the learning area and a man called Duncan helped us figure out what our  carbon footprint was. The carbon footprint is how much energy you use.

We also had fun with visitors from recyke-a-bike, Mo and  Jimmie. We did a slow race, in the slow race you tried to not be first but be last! Megan, Kyle  and Naomi won the slow races.

When we went litter picking at Cambuskenneth we got moved into two groups, we found a lot of litter! Under the bridge was lots of  litter, we found all kinds of  rubbish, such as glass, cans, plastic bottles, even tennis balls!

P7S Thoroughly Environmental Thursday

First thing this morning we listened to some protest songs about our environment and began to write our own versions.  The class’  favourite was Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell and by break time we were all singing along (especially the Oooh Pa Pa Pa Pas!).

We also had a really interesting visitor this morning from Going Carbon Neutral.  Miss Harvey told us all about global warming and the impact of climate change.  We worked out how big our own carbon footprints are and learned about the things we can do to reduce carbon and help slow climate change like walking to school, holidaying in the UK, eating less meat and more local produce,  minimising waste and buying second hand goods.  Everyone can do their bit to reduce Stirling’s carbon footprint!  What can you do?

In the afternoon we did some fun orienteering with Duncan McLean from Kindrogan Field Centre.   We used small maps to find our way round an area in the playground.  That warmed us up in the rain!  We then used compasses to locate several clipboards hidden in the playground – it was a race between all the groups!  We all loved using the GPS systems but  trying to get to the target was extremely tricky and kept changing!  It was a great afternoon with Duncan.

Our fashion designs are finally finished, we have voted for our favourites and the top two will be modelled tomorrow at the fashion show. Move over Bruce Oldfield!!

A Busy Day In Primary 3W

Another busy day for 3W. This morning we had a Drama workshop. We played great warm up games and learned a lot about the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse Recycle. We got a comic strip and a badge for taking part.

After break it was time for our Litter Pick. We had to wear bright tabards and gloves for safety reasons. We walked along to the Clock Roundabout and back collecting litter. We were lucky it did not rain while we were out. We picked nearly 11kgs of litter.

We spent the afternoon designing and starting to make our photoframe. We also stared work on our stall for tomorrow. What a busy day!!!!

We are looking forward to seeing lots of people at our Fashion Show tomorrow!!!!

P3H’s Thursday

Primary 3H went litter picking in the local park this morning.  We were helped by Mrs Gow and Mrs O’Sullivan.  We were pleased to see that the park was not too messy, however it was absolutely spotless by the time we were finished!

After playtime we had our Eco drama which was absolutely fabulous.  We were shown how we should reduce, reuse and recycle rubbish.  We came up with some great ideas for how we could reuse some cardboard such as using it as a cape!

After lunch we found out all about worms.  Did you know that some worms if cut in two could still survive!

We then made our very own mini wormerys.  We have not added any worms in yet as we are not finished.   The children are welcome to bring in any worms dug up in the garden to add to their own.

It has beena really enjoyable week and we can’t wait for tomorrow.  We hope to see you all.
